Eton Bowling Club

Rules

1. The name of the Club shall be the ‘Eton Bowling Club’.
This rule is deemed to be fundamental and cannot be changed.

2. The Club shall have a Committee of Management (‘the Committee’) which shall manage the business of the Club.

3. The Committee shall consist of a President, a Chairman, an Hon. Secretary. an Hon. Treasurer, a Captain, Vice Captain and a maximum of 5 other members, all of whom shall be elected annually at the Annual General Meeting (A.G.M). 5 Committee members shall form a quorum.

4. The nomination for the office of President shall be made by the Committee. All other nominations for Office and Committee shall be made on proposal forms obtainable from the Hon. Secretary to whom they should be returned 14 days prior to the A.G.M.

5. The Committee shall have the power to arrange matches, arrange handicaps, elect members and to conduct any business relating to the Club and to settle any disputes that may arise in connection with the Club and which are not specifically provided for in these rules. On all matters requiring a decision of the Committee, their decision shall be final.

6. The A.G.M shall be held in January on a date to be fixed by the Committee, when the reports of the Hon. Secretary and the Hon. Treasurer for the financial year of the Club ending on 31st October will be submitted. Notice of any motion for inclusion in the agenda must be submitted in writing to the Hon. Secretary prior to the AGM. In the following circumstances, the Hon. Secretary shall have the power to summon an Extraordinary General Meeting (E.G.M).

  • i. At the direction of the Committee and where the Committee cannot resolve matters of Club business without conferring with the members.
  • ii. Upon a request forwarded to the  Hon. Secretary signed by at least 12 members stating the object of such meeting

6a. The E.G.M shall be conducted under the same rules as the A.G.M, and meetings summoned under items i or ii of rule 6 shall be called no later than 21 days from the date of the request to the Hon. Secretary. The notice of any E.G.M shall be advised to the membership in writing. No other business except that for which the E.G.M has been called shall be brought before the E.G.M at which 18 members will form a quorum.

7. Any person wishing to become a member shall complete an application form. An application for membership requires the support of 2 currently paid up members one of whom has been a full member for 2 years or more.The Proposer and Seconder, will be guarantors for the conduct of the applicant. The Proposer shall forward the completed application form to the Hon. Secretary, who will arrange an interview with the Membership Committee. The application form will then be displayed on the notice board for a period of 7 days during the playing season and the applicant will be allowed to use the Club’s facilities during this time. In the event of an unsuccessful application, the subscription fee will be refunded.

7a. Junior membership is available between the ages of 10 and 16 years at half the annual subscription. Full subscription becomes payable once a junior member reaches their 17th birthday.

7b. Special membership is available to members over the age of 80 years who have previously been members for 5 years or more. They will retain full member­ship at half the annual subscription.

7c. Associate Membership is available at half the annual subscription for those living outside the Liverpool area, and for those who are unable to take advantage of full membership due to ill health of self or spouse. They will receive the benefits of full membership minus voting rights. This concession is subject to Committee approval on an annual basis.

7d. Subject to Committee approval, membership as ‘Friends of Eton Bowling Club’ is available for those who wish to show some association with the Club but who do not wish to play. Such members will have no voting rights.

8. The Annual Subscription inclusive of locker fees shall be approved at the A.G.M when the subscription shall become due. No member will be allowed to take part in any Main until their subscription has been paid. Members who have not paid their subscription by 30th April of the year in which it is due shall cease to be members, and thereafter be liable for visitors fees for the use of the green, limited to 3 visits.

9. Members wishing to introduce a guest to play must enter the name in the visitors’ book. A Green Fee, as decided by the Committee, will be payable on each occasion a visitor plays. The introducing member will be responsible for ensuring that this payment is given to a member of the Committee. At all times, the Rules of the Club must be abided by, and the member will be responsible for the behaviour of the visitor whose visits will be limited to 3.

10. All disputes in the game shall be referred to the Captain or, in his absence, to any member of the Committee present.

11. Betting and gambling are strictly prohibited. The Committee has the power to deal with any offender of this Rule as thought desirable.

12..These Rules can only be altered at an A.G.M or E.G.M by a majority of members entitled to vote. At least twelve members must support a proposed Rule change.
